Pastor Search Committee Makes Recommendation - Shane Peyton
Shane was born in Nashville, 2/17/72, but lists his hometown as Franklin. He was ordained to the Ministry in 2005 by College Grove Baptist Church. He has his Bachelors degree in Biblical & Theological Studies and another in Christian Counseling with a minor in Church Ministries, all from Liberty University. He is employed as the V.P. of Operations-Lease Purchase Division for Paschall Truck Lines. And yes, as some have asked, he is open to the leading of the Lord regarding becoming full time some day if asked by the church. In addition, when their current lease ends on their home in Columbia, they would very much like to relocate to Chapel Hill. We will let them share the particulars when the time comes.
He has been married to his High School sweetheart, Julie for 25 years. They have 3 grown children, with the youngest, Michaela, currently attending Lee University. Shane and Julie have (2) grandsons and twin granddaughters are scheduled to be delivered Monday, April 4. Please keep them all in prayer as this is an early delivery date. Julie is the Founder and Executive Director of the "Not Without Hope Project" and is gifted in ministry as well. Please go to www.notwithouthopeproject.com to learn more about this ministry, a 501-C3 organization. Both Shane and Julie come very highly recommended by everyone we spoke to, but especially Dr. Tim Key, the DOM of New Duck River Baptist Association. I will leave the remainder of their story for them to share in the near future assuming our church affirms the calling of Shane as our next Pastor with his trial sermon being this Sunday, March 27 and the congregational member only vote scheduled Sunday, April 3. Following a vote of at least 75% of the eligible voters present April 3, Bro. Shane has informed us he would the be both honored and excited to begin his ministry at CHCBC the following Sunday, April 10. In what to many, especially the Pastor Search Team sees as another indication God has been directing this process all along, the church already had scheduled a Cover Dish Luncheon for Sunday, April 10! By the way, another great reason to be present on April 3 is that day we will be hearing from Anna Curtner, Marcia Shaw, and Robin Chunn as they share their recent mission trip to Alaska.
Please continue in prayer for Peyton family and our church family as well. On behalf of the Pastor Search Team, Pat Roberson, Chad Grissom, Alan Curtner, Cathy Holland, and myself, thank you for your many prayers and support thru this 5 month process. You have been patient and faithful in your support in this time of transition for our church. As I shared also yesterday, a big show of gratitude goes to the entire Music Team including those behind the scene. They have encouraged us with the music every single week. And, our faithful (4) Deacons, Chairman Mark Porter, Pat Roberson, Stevie Holton, and Sonny Roberson, have not only just encouraged and personally prayed for the Search Team, they never once tried to interfere in the process. They chose the supply preachers, and there were several good ones who even applied to be our pastor, and were considered in the process. But only after the Team made our choice did I call Mark Porter, as Chairman of the Deacons, to share our decision. They respected the search process and we as a church are better for it. Southern Baptists can truly work together to advance the Kingdom. And finally as I spoke yesterday, I think we could all feel the love and excitement when the spontaneous applause broke out at the announcement of our unanimous recommendation that Bro. Shane Peyton is our (the Search Team) first and only choice to be considered as our next Pastor. Now may the Lord continue to bless us as we seek to reach our Community for Christ. Now, let's invite others to come worship the Lord with us this Easter Sunday and all Sundays to come as long as The Lord tarries. Remember, the very souls of the lost are at stake. We must share the Good News. Amen.
